The thesis
Compute is bottlenecked by energy, not chips.
The constraint on the next wave of computing is not silicon supply. It is power: where to find it, what it costs, and how fast it can be connected to a rack. That is an energy problem, and it is one Africa is unusually well placed to solve.
The argument in four steps
-
Power is the binding constraint
Data-centre developers worldwide are queuing for grid interconnection. The scarce input is not GPUs; it is a megawatt you can actually energise this decade.
-
Africa has energy with no buyer
Associated gas is flared for want of a commercial route to market. Solar is curtailed where there is no load. Both are energy that currently earns nothing, and both sit exactly where a modular compute site can be placed.
-
Go to the energy, not the grid
A conventional data centre pulls from the public grid, which in Nigeria means competing for a resource that has never exceeded roughly 6 GW nationally. We co-locate with generation instead and size each site to its energy source.
-
Monetise it with the most flexible workload there is
Digital-asset mining ramps in seconds and stops in seconds. It turns stranded power into revenue from day one, and that revenue underwrites the AI and HPC capacity that follows. We defend that choice in detail, because the category leader made the opposite one.
Where we are honest about the limits
Domestic AI compute demand in Nigeria is small today.
We are not pretending otherwise, and our sequencing assumes it. Mining first means capacity is revenue-generating whether or not that demand arrives on schedule, and the same modules can be redeployed when it does.
What we have that others do not
An energy company, building the load.
Every other operator in this market buys power or fights the grid for it. We sit inside a group that generates it.
